Begin your journey through Bali's spiritual and cultural heart with a visit to the sacred Besakih Mother Temple, the largest and holiest temple complex on the island. Perched on the slopes of Mount Agung, the temple is the origin of Balinese civilization and is dedicated to Lord Siva, the highest god for followers of Siva. You can admire the beautiful sculptures and learn about the five elements that, according to local belief, neutralize the negative forces of nature, planted by the magical priest Rsi Markandya.
After exploring the vast Besakih temple complex, you will descend Mount Agung and stop at a scenic hidden spot for lunch. Enjoy your meal while taking in the impressive view over the valley of Mount Agung, where the river flows from the mountain and the majestic peak is visible above the local rice fields.
Next, you will head to the Kerta Gosa, a historical landmark and the former court of justice of the Klungkung kingdom. The remaining royal buildings now serve as a royal museum where you can see traditional Balinese paintings in the Kamasan style. The paintings on the ceilings of the main halls depict scenes from Hindu epics and offer a glimpse into the spiritual teachings and justice system of the past.
The journey continues with a brief stop at a spectacular waterfall. You'll find yourself in a cave-like setting where the waterfall is surrounded by circular cliffs. On a clear day, sunlight shines through the gaps, creating a magical atmosphere and beautiful light beams that illuminate the mossy rock walls. This is likely Tukad Cepung Waterfall, known for its unique location and stunning visual effects.
Finally, you will explore a traditional Balinese village in the Bangli area, which is believed to be the home of descendants of residents from a 9th-century expedition to build the Balinese population.
